Houses of worship have functioned as refuges over centuries. Sites of pilgrimage and a sense of congregation and safety; the clergy as “fathers” and moral authorities. The now/mad becomes aware of the complicated relations different (situated and shifting) citizens and non-citizens have to the state(s), religion and security, and explores its current place of unsafe residence—Vienna—and visits churches—those museums of relics and functional artworks—searching for a place to rest. Becoming further aware of the relationship between the Austrian state (government and security apparatuses), the Catholic Church and the Refugee Protest, the now/mad’s actions modestly deterritorialize by stealing a bit of code.
